New Zealand Active Investor Plus Visa

The New Zealand investor visa is perfect for you if you'd want to obtain residence through making an investment. There are two visa options, namely the investor visa and the investor plus visa. The investor visa requires an investment of at least NZ$1.5 million for 4 years while the investor plus visa calls for an investment of at least NZ$10 million for 3 years.

Both investor visa options enable you to live and work in New Zealand. You can also include your partner and any dependent children up to the age of 24 in your application in either application.

New Zealand Investor Visa

investor visa 1 new zealandThe New Zealand investor visa  requires an investment of at least NZ$ 1,5 million for 4 years in New Zealand. Applications under the Category 1 investor visa can only be made by  up to the age of 65.

  • Only acceptable New Zealand investments can be invested in.
  • Investments must be made through the New Zealand banking system and be must be from a validated source.

Other Criteria for the New Zealand Investor Visa

  • You will need to demonstrate 3 years of business experience:
    • in owning a business or being in a senior management position within a business;
      • with an annual turnover of at least NZ$1 million;
      • and with at least 5 full-time staff members.
  • In addition to the investment amount you must be able to prove  you can support yourself. As a result of this settlement funds of an additional NZ$ 1 million must be proven. However these funds do not need to be transferred to New Zealand.
  • Within 12 months of the provisional visa being granted, you must transfer the funds to New Zealand. You may apply for a multi entry visa during this time.
  • An English language level of 3+ on IELTS (International English Language Test) is required. Alternatively proven competence of being an English speaker. All accompanying family members must meet the same criteria.
  • You must meet the normal health and good character requirements.
  • You need to spend at least 146 days of the last 3 of the 4 years in New Zealand.
  • There are only 300 investor visas in this category issued per year. Consequently there is a points scoring methodology applied to the application.

New Zealand Investor Visa Plus

To make an application for an Investor Plus Visa you will need to invest at least NZ$ 10 million for a period of 3 years in New Zealand. There are no age restrictions on this visa unlike the Investor Visa Category 1.

  • The investment must be in an acceptable New Zealand investment.
  • The investment must come through the New Zealand banking system and be from a validated source.

Other criteria for a New Zealand Investor Visa Plus (Category 2)

  • There is no requirement to demonstrate any business experience.
  • Applications for the investor plus visa can be made at any age.
  • You do not need to demonstrate any settlement funds.
  • You have 12 months after the provisional visa has been granted to transfer the funds to New Zealand. You may apply for a multi entry visa during this time.
  • There is no English speaking requirements for the applicant or accompanying family members.
  • You must meet the normal health and good character requirements.
  • You must spend at least 44 days of the last 3 of the 4 years in New Zealand.
  • There is no points test applied to the investor plus visa application, therefore there is no restriction in terms of numbers.
